Paul Evans & Anita Sethi discuss Nature, Identity & the City
In 2019, The Portico Library will relaunch The Portico Prize: a major literary award celebrating contemporary writing that encapsulates ‘a sense of the North’. The Portico Library and the Centre for Place Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University have come together to organise, in the months leading up to the announcement of the Prize, ‘Rewriting the North’: a series of events celebrating writers and writing connected with the North of England. Paul Evans and Anita Sethi will read from their work and will discuss the role that place plays in their creative practice.

Paul Evans
Best known as the author of the Guardian’s Country Diary, Paul Evans is a naturalist, broadcaster of natural history documentaries and award-winning dramas for BBC Radio 4, and performance poet. His recent publications include Herbaceous (2014), Field Notes from the Edge (2015), and How to See Nature (2018). Paul Evans is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Anita Sethi
Anita Sethi was born in Manchester, UK and is an award-winning writer, journalist and broadcaster who has written for newspapers and magazines including the Guardian, the Observer, the Sunday Times, and the Times Literary Supplement. A judge of the 2019 British Book Awards, 2019 Society of Authors Awards and 2018 Costa Book Awards, her creative writing has appeared in Seaside Special: Postcards from the Edge (2018), The Good Journal (2018), Common People (2019), and Women on Nature (forthcoming), among others.
