Award-winning graphic novel writer, Corey Brotherson, joins the ‘Festival of Libraries’ line up at the Portico Library on Saturday 15 June 2024.
Corey is the creator of the women-focused sci-fi anthology Deadlier Than…, and the critically acclaimed ongoing graphic novel series, Magic of Myths, as well as the writer of in-development adventure game ‘Windrush Tales’.
Joining him in a fireside chat will be Portico Public Programme Committee Chair, Carol Ann Whitehead, as Corey shares his journey across 17 years in the comic book industry, focusing on lived experiences and perspectives often absent from the mainstream. You’ll also have the opportunity to take part in a workshop to explore ways to create your own inclusive stories.
Visitors will have an opportunity to buy a signed copy of Corey’s graphic novels and comics.

Biographies:
Corey Brotherson is an award-winning writer, editor and creative consultant who has worked in the video games industry since 2001 as a journalist, critic and content producer for over a dozen companies, including Sony PlayStation, Yahoo! and the Eurogamer Network.
He’s the co-writer of the world’s first Windrush video game – Windrush Tales – an in-development branching narrative, co-created with writer/narrative designer Chella Ramanan. Amongst other narrative based work, he guest teaches writing to junior and secondary school students, has scribed over a dozen comic book stories since 2005, including women-focused sci-fi anthology Deadlier Than…, and the critically acclaimed ongoing graphic novel series, Magic of Myths (with artist and co-creator Sergio Calvet), he is the editor and social media manager of children’s book publisher Butterfly Books, and the adapting writer/line-editor for Yomi Ayeni’s non-colonial steampunk transmedia series Clockwork Watch.
In 2020, Corey was selected for the London Games Festival Ensemble exhibition, in recognition for his work in the video games industry, and became the lead narrative designer for Surgent Studios‘ African mythology action-adventure, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU. He is also a full voting member of BAFTA, and has been a judge for the BAFTA Game Awards on three occasions.
Corey is writing his debut novel and is represented by Anna Dixon of YMU.

Carol Ann Whitehead is Trustee of the Portico Library and Chair of its Public Programme Committee. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts; a Chartered Management Institute Women’s Board member; and a Chartered Companion. She is winner of several awards including as Youth Publisher from the IDG European Publishing Institute, and heads the Zebra Partnership, a boutique publishing, events and campaigns agency.
An advocate of women’s rights, equality, diversity and belonging, Carol Ann is also former Executive Director at YM Media Ltd; a guest lecturer at The University of Manchester; a recipient of the Inclusive Companies Certificate of Excellence; a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the GGA Foundation; and a Pankhurst Trust and 50:50 Parliament Ambassador.
