Roo Waterhouse is a shelf portrait artist based in Hebden Bridge who enjoys painting realistic book spines and covers - bringing them to life with the stories each book holds.
This September, Roo is collaborating with the Portico Library Adopt-a-book scheme producing two oil paintings inspired by the Library’s 19th-century collection. Roo will also launch two newly designed greetings cards, reproduced from the paintings, in the Portico Shop.
Roo’s two artworks will be exhibited at the Portico Library from 1st September to February among the historic bookshelves.
Come along to a night full of book talks, find out about the Portico’s restoration programme and talk to the Collections and Access Librarian and her team. Roo will uncover the process of her paintings and those who attend will receive an exclusive 15% off on the new merchandise.
The two paintings will be available for sale, with 25% of the sale price going to the Portico Library Adopt-a-book programme.
