Using material from PN Review’s archives, this display will chart the Manchester based magazine’s early history of translating and transmitting poets from across the globe.
PN Review, the ‘premier British poetry journal’ (Marjorie Perloff), marks its fiftieth anniversary this year. When it launched in Manchester as Poetry Nation in 1973, its ambition was to provide a ‘cosmopolitan not metropolitan … provincial podium for non-provincial poets’. Under the general editorship of Michael Schmidt, and a distinguished circle of collaborators and associates, it has for five decades brought those international voices that have shaped poetry in English from across the globe to the attention of readers and remains true to its purpose today.
